Steve Wynn to Pull Out of Alliance with PokerStars Over D.O.J. Poker Sites Seizure?

Written by Thomas | Saturday, April 16th, 2011

More breaking news has just hit the Twitter airwaves, with AP reporter Oskar Garcia saying that “Wynn pulls out of alliance with PokerStars, while Fertittas says theirs was contingent on Full Tilt getting a gambling license.”

As Full Tilt Poker closes USA off to it’s software now, it would probably make complete sense that casino mogul Steve Wynn would pull out of their deal, especially with the government’s seizure of major online poker websites as of earlier this morning.  The publicity has been nothing but bad at the moment, with the whole entire poker community in a slight panic in regards to cashouts and of course not being able to have a home site to player internet poker at.

Oskar Garcia has been posting on his official Twitter account with news and updates regarding this whole situation for the past few hours, making numerous posts about the billions of dollars being funneled in and out of online poker websites through payment processors circumventing federal statutes from the UIGEA bill passed back in 2006.

Something he has not made very clear is the fact that poker players WILL NOT be prosecuted or indicted in this huge federal crackdown – as of right now the DOJ is only going after the executives behind major poker sites PokerStars, UB.com, Absolute Poker and Full Tilt, as well as any payment processors assisting them in funding USA player accounts.

There are still plenty of USA-friendly poker sites that are able to process deposits and cashouts, especially Merge sites like Carbon Poker and Sportsbook.com.  Considering the witch hunt that has been on internet gambling the past few years, that fact that online poker sites shutting down USA players is really no surprise to me at this point in time.

The only surprising thing to note out of all this is that most online sportsbooks and casinos have not been affected by this, as it just seems to be a huge power play by the United States government to intimidate and scare off any other poker websites still operating in the country.

It is unknown whether it will work and help facilitate a mass exodus of online gambling sites from the USA…
