Mobile sports betting is coming to Nevada.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board recently approved a new application for mobile phones that will allow Blackberry smartphone users to place sports bets via their mobile device.

The application was created by American Wagering Inc., and it is being plainly called “Leroy’s application.” This is the first time a smart phone application that offers sports betting has been approved in the United States. So for now the application is available for Blackberry smart phones but in time the application should be available for Android users as well. The company has submitted the application for the Google Android for approval.

Mark Lipparelli the chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board commented that each application will be reviewed and tested to make sure that the technology can be disabled at the state border before approval. Lipparelli was asked if other gaming companies had submitted applications for field testing by the board and he declined to confirm any information.

Senior vice president of American Wagering John English commented that the field tests took about ninety days for completion. He commented that regulators were concerned that the sports bets made stayed within the state.

American Wagering stated that the application uses technology that has many layers of security that include a patent-pending geographic location process and encrypted communications that will help provide a safe and secure wagering environment that make sure all wagers will stay in the state.

English also commented that he hopes the Android application will see a faster approval since the BlackBerry application field tests have been completed. Next on the list for the company is to submit an iPhone application for approval. English stated the company will then look to move into iPads as well as other mobile devices after they make sure the application is secured.
